Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artistic gymnast. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she took home a gold in the team competition with her teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans who have won back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman also won silver medals in the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. Raisman won silver medals for the individual all-around and also for the floor exercise. She is also the two-time national champion in floor exercise (2012,2015) and the 2012 champion national of balance beam, and five times medalist at the national championships all-around (silver in 2016 and silver in 2012, 2011, 2012, and 2015. Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on May 25 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high school gymnast as was Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings: Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has stated that "I am very grateful for being able to not only represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish community everywhere." Raisman started gymnastics when she was eighteen months. She credits her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's group that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8 before she went to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online while training for the Olympics.
